Well Being

I was tasked with early-stage design responsibilities for Fluid Sports Tech, aimed at improving access to mental health resources for student-athletes. My responsibilities included wireframing, user journey flows, branding and prototyping. I contributed to creating a seamless interface that prioritized ease of use and reduced friction in seeking support.

Role

Fluid Sports Tech is a platform dedicated to supporting student-athletes by connecting them with accessible mental health resources through technology. Their mission is to empower athletes to prioritize their mental well-being through seamless, user-friendly solutions designed specifically for their needs.

The Challenge

After conducting a usability survey with participants from a local college, we found that a majority of users ended their session pretty quickly and did not explore other functions of the application.

Empathize

Users reported losing interest when the subscription window appeared before they had a chance to explore the app’s features.

Users were also discouraged when they encountered a lengthy onboarding process instead of immediate access to mental health tools.

Define

After analyzing feedback from our user research, all of the proclaimed pain points were stemming from membership access

Ideate

How can we let users explore the app's features without them leaving while seamlessly guiding them toward purchasing a membership?

Prototype

Conclusion

Reflecting on my time with Fluid Sports Tech, I gained valuable insights into the fast-paced nature of UI/UX design in a startup environment. As my first formal experience with product design, I learned that it goes far beyond just making something visually appealing. I discovered the importance of designing with the user in mind, focusing on functionality, usability, and accessibility. I enjoyed having multiple roles during my internship, as it allowed me to see how my design choices carried more weight in a smaller-scale environment.
